"english": "Rabbi Yishmael1 says:2 There exist thirteen distinct methods by which new laws may be learned from verses of the Torah: 1. Should the Torah set down a rule regarding a less obvious case, we infer that such a rule would surely obtain in a more obvious case.3 2. Should the Torah employ a similar word in two distinct locations, we infer that a given rule governing one location likewise governs the other location. 3. Should the Torah set forth a general rule in one verse or two verses, that instance is deemed a “father” case, and we extend that rule to other cases resembling the “father” case. 4. Should a general statement in a verse be followed by a specific example, the verse's rule governs those examples alone, and no further. 5. Should a specific example in a verse be followed by a general statement, we infer that the verse's rule governs broadly, and not merely the particular examples. 6. Should the Torah present a general statement, then a specific example, then a further general statement—we extend the verse's rule only to cases resembling the specific example. 7. Should the Torah present a general statement and a specific example, and the general statement needs the specific example in order to clarify it, and likewise when the specific example needs the general statement in order to clarify it, we extend the rule alike to the general statement and to the specific example. 8. Anything that was included in a general statement, and afterward picked out by the Torah in order to teach us something new is not merely teaching us about that which was set apart itself; rather, it is teaching us something new about the general statement too. 9. Anything that had been embraced in a general statement, and afterward singled out to teach us something already stated in the rule, was set apart solely to teach us a law that is less strict in some respect, and not more strict. 10. Anything that had been embraced in a general statement, and was afterward singled out to teach us something that was not mentioned in the rule, was set apart to teach us that the law is less strict in one respect and more strict in another. 11. Anything that had been embraced in a general statement, and was afterward singled out to teach a new, different law, you cannot return and restore that which was singled out, back into the general statement, unless the Torah expressly returns it and declares that it is embraced in the general statement. 12. A law may be grasped by considering where it appears in the Torah, or from verses after it. 13. Likewise, should two verses appear to contradict each other, we may grasp them once a third verse comes and solves the contradiction between them through its clarification.",

Having recited verses of Torah and a chapter of Mishnah describing the Temple sacrifices, we now recite a Beraita, equivalent to a Talmudic passage. This particular Beraita was selected for recital because it covers the fundamental principals that govern the entire Oral Law. Furthermore, it relates to the theme of Temple offerings because it is the introduction to the Midrash on Leviticus—a book that deals almost exclusively with the Tabernacle and its offerings.",
