<english>שְׁלָמִים The peace-offerings1 possess a lesser holiness. They are slaughtered anywhere within the Temple courtyard, and their blood must be sprinkled on two opposing corners of the outer altar, so that every one of the four altar walls receives a sprinkling of blood. Unburned portions of these offerings are eaten anywhere in the city of Jerusalem by any person, Kohanim not alone. They may be prepared in any way and consumed at whatever hour throughout that day, that night, and the following day until nightfall. Those portions of these offerings that are removed for the Kohanim to consume share the same laws as the remainder of the offering as to when, where, and how they may be consumed, except that these removed portions may solely be eaten by Kohanim, their wives, their children, and their non-Jewish slaves.</english>

<text>1 The peace-offering is so called because it brought peace to the world. In particular, it made peace between the mundane and the holy. Whereas the consumption of other offerings was restricted due to their holiness (they could only be eaten by Kohanim in the Temple), the peace-offering was allowed to be eaten anywhere in the city, by anyone. This is because the holiness of the peace-offering was able to "make peace" with the mundane—in this case, the physical act of eating by regular people at home.</text>
