<english>16 Rabbi Akiva would frequently say: Everything a person possesses in this world is granted him by God on condition that it be used for its proper purpose. A net lies spread over all living beings—they cannot flee God's judgment. This world resembles a shop that stands open for anyone to take what he wishes. The Shopkeeper—God—extends credit, patiently awaiting people's repayment of Him through repentance. The record book lies open to note everyone's deeds, and the hand records all that transpires. Whoever wishes to take a loan from God and "owe" Him repentance may freely borrow, yet every "debt" must in due time be repaid through repentance. The collectors circulate often each day; God collects what is due from each person for his "debts" by many means, whether that person perceives it or not.1 The collectors have something on which to rely—the record book that notes everyone's deeds. Judgment rendered is a judgment of truth. God judges people justly. All is made ready for the feast of the World to Come, when every person will receive what is due.</english>

To a tree possessing only a few branches yet many roots—even should all the winds in the world come and gust against it, they cannot shift it from its place. As it says in Jeremiah: He shall resemble a tree planted beside water, which will stretch its roots toward the brook; it takes no note when heat arrives, and its foliage will always stay fresh. Amid a year of drought it will not fret, and it will not cease yielding fruits.</english>

<english>18 Rabbi Eliezer (ben) Chisma says: The mathematical calculations that decide what to do when bird offerings become confused and unidentifiable, together with computations that fix when the laws of niddah begin, are in truth part of the Torah.3 They constitute laws of the Torah, yet the mathematical calculations of astronomy and numerical values merely lend flavor to a person's wisdom and ought to be studied only once a person is already filled with Torah knowledge.</english>

<text>1 You decide your own judgment. You are presented with a scenario of another Jew, who did exactly what you did, and your judgment of that person is applied to you. You judged yourself knowingly by judging the act, yet unknowingly, because you weren't aware that the judgment was meant for you!</text>
