<english>Therefore, may it accord with Your will, Lord, our God and the God of our forefathers, that these verses about the daily burnt-offering and the incense which our lips have just uttered should be valued and received before You, as though we had truly presented the daily burnt-offering at its set hour, remained there in the fitting place, observed while it was being offered, and offered the incense at its fitting hour. Our prayers stand in place of Temple offerings, as it is stated by the prophet Hosea: Now, after the ruin of the Holy Temple, we compensate for the bulls that we cannot bring as offerings by speaking of the offerings with our lips in prayer. And the Torah declares: This constitutes the statute of the burnt-offering, of the flour-offering, of the sin-offering, of the guilt-offering, of the consecration-offering, and of the peace-offering. From the words “this is the law,” we gather that when someone studies these statutes, God regards it as though he had truly presented them on the altar.</english>

<text>1 The forty-two words in this prayer correspond to God's forty-two-letter name. One reason why it is said here, after the description of the daily service in the Temple, is to commemorate the fact that when the Kohanim would bless the nation as part of their daily service, they would recite this forty two-letter name. Another reason is that this prayer contains a request to God to save us from exile. We say it at this point, having just described the daily service of the Temple, in the hope that we will be able to participate in it once again.</text>

<text>2 God's "right hand" is associated with Torah study, because it was with that hand that God presented the Torah to the Jewish Nation at Mount Sinai. With these words, we ask God to ensure that the merit of our Torah study will be strong enough to release us from our personal "captivity"—our evil inclination.</text>
