<hebrew>מִזְמוֹר שִׁיר לְיוֹם הַשַּׁבָּת:

<english>מִזְמוֹר What follows is a musical prayer for the Levites to chant in the Holy Temple upon the Shabbat day. Fitting it is to laud You, Lord, and to chant to Your name, most high God. Fitting it is to speak of Your kindness at dawn1 and Your faithfulness in the nights.2 I will laud You upon a ten-stringed instrument together with a lyre, and with song accompanied by a harp. For You, Lord, have gladdened me by Your wondrous works.3 I sing in gladness when I behold the great acts that Your hands perform. Lord, how mighty are the works You perform!4 Your thoughts run exceedingly deep. A brutish man cannot know them, nor can a fool grasp what follows: the reason why the wicked sprout and flourish like grass, and all evildoers blossom, only that they be destroyed later on, evermore. O Lord, You remain exalted always. Truly, Lord, Your foes—truly, Your foes—shall be destroyed. All those who sin shall be scattered and destroyed.5 But the righteous will be able to declare, You have heightened my power; You have rendered me mighty like a wild ox. You have granted me many luxuries; I am even anointed with fresh oil. My eyes have beheld the ruin of my enemies who would observe me. My ears have caught the ruin of the wicked people who rose against me. The righteous shall flourish and bear offspring as a palm tree bears fruits. They shall grow tall like a cedar tree in Lebanon. They shall be planted in the Holy Temple, the Lord's house, and there they will study Torah. They shall flourish in the Lord's courtyards in the Holy Temple. They will yet be fruitful when they are old; they will stay vigorous and fresh. These things will declare to people that the Lord is just. My strength is He, and no injustice is in Him.</english>

<text>5 Our emotions are able to work together in matters of holiness. For example, we may love, have mercy, and feel embarrassed for a fellow Jew, all at the same time. With unholy matters, however, our emotions are "scattered" and do not work together. We may love something, fear something, or be embarrassed about something that we are not supposed to be, but these feelings do not combine with one another for this purpose.</text>
