<english>for the Lord Who stood with us to aid us when men rose up against us to ruin us, then in their searing fury against us they would have swallowed us alive. Then we would have been overcome like waters sweeping us away. Like a mighty torrent, they would have surged over our soul. Indeed, the flooding waters would then have poured over our soul. Blessed is the Lord, Who allowed us not to become as food for our foes, prey for their teeth. Our soul resembles a bird that has fled the fowler’s snare. The snare broke. Our foes were overcome and we escaped from them. Our help does not arise from ourselves; it arises from the name of the Lord, fashioner of heaven and earth.</english>

<english>הַלְלוּיָהּ Extol the Lord. Extol the name of the Lord. Offer praise, Kohanim—servants of the Lord—who take their stand in the House of the Lord,1 the Temple, and the remaining Children of Israel, who pray in the courts of the House of our God—the Temple courts. Extol the Lord, for the Lord is good.

<english>The idols which the nations of the world revere are fashioned of silver and gold; they are formed by human hands. A mouth they possess, yet cannot speak; they possess eyes, yet cannot see; they possess ears, yet cannot hear. There isn't even any breath in their mouths, for they cannot draw breath. Those who make idols and all who rely on them will become like them—incapable of speech, sight, hearing, or breath.</english>

<text>1 When a haughty person visits a truly great person, he mistakenly believes that the great person is honored by his presence. Humble "servants of the Lord," by contrast, consider themselves honored and privileged to "stand in the House of the Lord." For this reason they "praise the Lord."</text>
