<english>Who shall find a wife of excellence possessing all the traits below? Her worth far exceeds the costliest jewels. Her husband's heart relies on her to manage all things. Having no cause for worry, he is free to do his labor, and he shall not lose out on any commercial profit. Throughout the days of her life, she deals well with him; she does good deeds for him and never bad deeds. She goes forth to seek flax and wool to sew garments, and she works at it gladly, with her hands. She resembles a merchant's ships, for she brings her food from distant places. She rises while it is yet nighttime, before the sun has risen, and provides food to her household and assigns jobs to her maids. She contemplates buying a field due to its great worth and then purchases it at once. From the proceeds she obtains for the labor of her hands, she plants a vineyard. She conquers weariness with strength, girds on her clothing—and flexes her arms as she readies for labor.1 When she sees that her labor is good and she can profit from it, she remains awake all night to labor; her lamp will not be extinguished all night. She sets her hands on a spindle (an implement that spins wool into thread) and her palms grasp a distaff (an implement keeping wool steady as it is spun). By these implements, she fashions clothing for her household. She stretches forth her hand offering coin to the poor and reaches out her hands offering coin to the needy too ashamed to request it. She does not fear that her household will be cold from snow in winter, for her whole household is clad in warm, colored garments. She fashions for herself beautiful material; she wears</english>

She fashions bed-linen for others and sells them; she furnishes belts to the merchants. She oversees the conduct of her household and sees that they walk in the path of Torah. She does not linger long to eat her bread; she is not lazy.4 Her children arise and laud her. <text>1 Literally, "She wraps a belt around her hips with strength." Just as a person's hips support the body and head, so do the soul's "hips"—its faith in God—support its "body" (symbolizing love and fear of God) and "head" (symbolizing knowledge of God). Torah, which is referred to as "strength," reinforces our faith, which in turn reinforces our understanding of God and our appreciation for Him.</text>

They are: loving God, fearing God, learning Torah, and fulfilling God's commandments.</text>

<text>3 This verse alludes to Torah study. We must adorn and "clothe" our study with prayer and good deeds. Prayer gives us "strength" to overcome our spiritual challenges and to follow the Torah faithfully; by fulfilling the Torah's commandments we reveal its true "beauty."</text>

It sees that the angels serve God with great enthusiasm and is inspired to behave in the same way. It is therefore never "lazy" in its service of God.</text>
