<english>מִזְמוֹר The following song concerns the era of the Redemption. At that time we shall say: Chant a fresh hymn unto the Lord for He performed wonders for us. His own right hand and holy arm have aided Him; He has received no aid from anyone or anything else. At first, God made known to us through the prophets that He would deliver us, but now He has disclosed His righteousness in the sight of every nation. He has recalled His kindness and His trustworthiness so as to keep His pledge of aiding the House of Israel. All those dwelling in the distant ends of the earth have seen the salvation that our God has given us.1 All those who dwell on earth, lift your voices joyfully to the Lord. Burst into song and make music. Make music unto the Lord upon a harp, upon a harp and with tones of song. Lift your voices joyfully before the Lord,2 the King, and laud Him with trumpets and with the blast of the shofar. Once the Redemption comes, the sea and all within it will roar, as shall the world and all who dwell in it. The rivers shall clap their hands in gladness. The mountains shall sing together before the Lord, for He has arrived to judge the people upon the earth. He shall judge the world righteously, and He shall judge the nations with fairness.</english>

The earth shall quake before God, Who will be seated upon the Cherubim in the Holy Temple. The Lord, Who is in Zion (Jerusalem), is mighty; He is lifted above every nation. God, every nation will praise Your name, which is mighty, awesome, and holy. They shall laud the might of God, the King Who loves justice.3 God, You established equity in the world. You fashioned the laws and the fairness of the Torah, which was bestowed upon Jacob and his children, the Jewish Nation. Extol the Lord, our God. Prostrate yourselves toward the Holy Temple, God's footstool, for He is holy. Moses and Aaron, who ranked as the chief among God's servants, and Samuel, a chief figure from among the prophets—those who invoke God's name4—would cry out to the Lord, and He would reply to them. He would speak to them from a pillar of cloud for they guarded His commandments—they kept the testimonies and statutes that He assigned them. Lord, our God, You answered them whenever they cried out to You. You were a pardoning God, pardoning the nation's sins because of them, and You took retribution from people who defamed them, such as Korach. Extol the Lord, our God, and bow down toward His holy mountain, the Temple Mount, for the Lord, our God, is holy.</english>

<text>1 This verse alludes to the story of Purim, when God miraculously saved the Jewish Nation from destruction. The greatness of this miracle was that it was not overtly supernatural—it was "disguised" in nature. Nevertheless, people all across the earth recognized that the events that led to the Jewish Nation's salvation had not been random, natural occurrences, but rather part of a greater Divine plan a miracle ordained by God.</text>

<text>2 Alternatively, "become friends [with] the face of the Lord." This verse describes the "sound of the shofar," which stirs the soul and arouses us to repent. When we do so, God turns His "face" toward us in a gesture of friendship.</text>

<text>3 These words can be interpreted in two opposite ways: 1. God's "love for justice" is derived from His "strength." His strength as a king enables Him to exercise justice without being concerned about what people will say. 2. God's "strength" is derived from His "justice," which causes His kingdom to be respected and strengthened, in the same way that King Solomon gained respect from the Jewish Nation because of his wise judgments.</text>

<text>4 We "call" people when we want them to be close to us. Samuel "called" God's name because he wanted God to be in this world. For this reason, he dedicated his life to spreading Godliness wherever he went, journeying from city to city to teach people about God's ways.</text>
