<text>1 When we think deeply about God's greatness, we may well become "ill" with an overwhelming love for Him. Just as people will be miraculously cured of physical ailments in the era of the Redemption, so will the Jewish Nation be cured of this spiritual "illness." At that time, God will "show the sweetness of His splendor"—He will satisfy our yearning for Him by revealing His essence.</text>

<type>Commentary</type>
<text>2 The Midrash explains that "days of old" refers to the days of Noah and the Great Flood. Although the flood caused much physical destruction to the world, it also cleansed it of evil and purified it spiritually. When the Redemption arrives, the entire world will similarly be "flooded" and covered with knowledge of God. We ask God to be "gracious to us" and bring us this "flood" to purify the world, just as He did "long ago," in the days of Noah.</text>

<text>3 "The holy Shabbat" refers to a level of holiness that cannot be achieved by our Divine service, it is a level that is higher than anything we can reach on our own. It is this holiness of Shabbat that is introduced into our homes when we light Shabbat candles.</text>
