You should teach Torah to your children and to disciples until they master it sufficiently to reply to every inquiry concerning it. You should occupy yourself with Torah's words and speak them at every chance: as you dwell in your house, as you travel on the way, as you lie down by night, and when you arise at dawn. I shall send you the early rain, which comes just after the seeds have been sown, and also the late rain, which comes once the plants have sprouted, that they may flourish. You will collect all of your grain, wine, and oil, and your foes will seize none of it. I will put abundant grass in your fields, so you need not shift your animals elsewhere to pasture them. <text>1 The term "singular" (or "only") might seem a more appropriate description for God than "one," which might imply that there are others beside Him. The Sages explain that each Hebrew letter of the word "one," אחד, has a deeper meaning. The first letter, א, has the numerical value of one, corresponding to the One God. The second letter, ח, has the numerical value of eight, corresponding to the seven heavens and one earth. The third letter, ד, corresponds to the four directions—north, south, east, and west. Accordingly, the entire word אחד teaches us that God is united and one with the entire universe—the heavens and the earth, in all directions. Although His creations may appear to exist independent of Him; in reality, they are one and united with Him.</text>

<text>2 Literally, "And you will serve other gods." The term "gods" in this context alludes to any physical or worldly pursuits that are foreign and distract from one's Divine service. God warns us that if we allow these mundane pursuits to become an obsession or a form of worship, the holiness of the heavens will not "rain" down upon us.</text>
