<english>These are the commandments bearing no limit; they may be kept in any measure: Setting aside produce at the edge of your field for the poor to gather, offering your first fruits1 at the Holy Temple, ascending to the Holy Temple at festival times to be seen before God,2 performing kind deeds for others, and studying Torah. These are the commandments for which a person receives a portion of this world's reward and the principal share in the World to Come. They are: Honoring your father and mother, performing kind deeds for others, arriving early at a place of Torah study morning and night, receiving guests in your home, calling on the sick, furnishing a bride with all she requires for marriage, escorting a deceased person to his burial, concentrating during prayer, and making peace between a pair of people and between husband and wife. All these commandments matter greatly, yet learning Torah equals all of them together, since studying Torah enables a person to keep all the remaining commandments.</english>

<text>1 In the absence of the Temple, we can no longer offer God our "first fruits" in the literal sense, but we may do so spiritually—by reserving the best of our talents and abilities for the fulfillment of His commandments.</text>

<text>2 There was no minimum requirement as to how long one had to remain in the Temple in order to fulfill this commandment. An alternative explanation: There was no minimum amount of money that one had to spend on the associated offering.</text>
