<english>My God, keep my tongue from uttering evil speech, and keep my lips from speaking falsely. Let my soul remain silent and pay no heed to those that curse me; may my soul prove as lowly as dust before all. Turn my heart toward Your Torah that I may grasp it rightly, and may my soul ever pursue after Your commandments. Swiftly nullify the designs of any persons intending to do evil against me, and wreck their schemes. May they become as chaff—the tiny, inedible husks of grain—carried off upon the breeze, and may the angel of the Lord thrust them aside. Uphold me by Your right hand, and hearken to my petitions so as to deliver the Jewish Nation, Your precious people, from distress. Act thus to make Your name great, that all may perceive that You are a great God; do this to fortify Your right hand, Whose splendor has grown faint amid exile; do this to unveil the majesty of Your Torah; do this to magnify Your holiness in this world.</english>

<text>* In this prayer, we ask God to "establish the work of our hands." It is only said before a full work week; not if there will be a festival during the week. Additionally, the prayer is said in order to protect us from evil spirits that may harm us during the week. When a festival occurs during the week, its holiness protects us, and we therefore do not say this prayer.</text>
