<english>It was taught in Elijah's academy: Whoever studies laws daily is assured a portion in the World to Come,1 as Habakkuk declares: Halichot (the ways) of the world are determined by God; such are His. Do not read that word solely as "halichot." Rather, construe it also as "halachot" (the laws). Construed thus, the verse can signify that when a person studies and knows laws, the World to Come belongs to him.</english>

<english>Rabbi Elazar said, citing Rabbi Chanina: Scholars of Torah multiply peace throughout the world.2 As Isaiah declares: All your children shall be students of the Lord's Torah, and the peace of banayich (your children) shall be abundant. Do not read and interpret the word's later instance "banayich" as signifying only your children, for that term already appears at the verse's start. Rather, take it as also signifying "bonayich" (your builders). Taken this way, the verse can signify that the builders among the Jewish Nation—the Torah scholars—possess abundant peace and bring abundant peace into the world. God, those who love Your Torah enjoy abundant peace, and there is no stumbling block in their path. Jerusalem, May peace dwell within your walls and tranquility within your mansions. For the good of my brothers and friends, the whole Jewish Nation, I pray that there should be peace within you. For the sake of the house of the Lord, our God, I pray that there should be goodness in you. The Lord shall grant strength to the Jewish Nation, His people. The Lord shall bless His people with peace.</english>

<text>1 Literally, "is guaranteed to be a son of the World to Come." In this case, the World to Come refers to the era of the Redemption, when Godliness will be fully revealed in our physical world. By learning Torah, we are guaranteed to receive this Godly revelation in full measure, just as an only son is given the right to receive his father's full inheritance (as opposed to a mere "portion of the World to Come").</text>

<text>2 Children must know that, even when they enjoy studying Torah for its intellectual stimulation, they must keep in mind that it is "the Lord's Torah." By remembering that the Torah is the Divine word of God, and not merely a source of great wisdom, they will bring peace to themselves and to the entire world.</text>
