<english>Rabban Shimon ben Gamliel says: The balm noted above is merely the juice that drips from balsam trees. The lye from Karshinah served for scouring the onycha, to make it look pleasant. Wine of Cyprus served to steep the onycha, that it might bear a powerful scent. Although the water from Raglayim would be better than Cyprus wine for giving the onycha a strong smell, water from Raglayim is not brought into the Holy Temple, for it is disrespectful.</english>

<text>1 The double expression of hope reminds us that we must not only have hope in God during our prayers, while we are requesting help, but we must also have hope in God after our prayers, even if He hasn't answered us as quickly as we expected Him to. We must keep our faith in God and anticipate His help even if it is delayed.</text>

<text>2 The amber was unique in that if it lost its scent, it could be placed in a location that had an unpleasant odor, and the odor would react with the amber to restore its original pleasant scent. This phenomenon can also occur to a person: When a person is placed in a spiritually unpleasant situation, that predicament can awaken in him a positive feeling and inner desire to do good and eliminate the negativity that he has encountered. This results in an improvement in his own spiritual health.</text>
