<english>My soul ought to bless the Lord. Lord, my God, You are exceedingly great. In Your lovely creations I behold how glorious and beautiful You are, even as a monarch is known by the regal garments he dons. God wraps Himself with light, even as garments clothe a person's body. He stretches the heaven across the earth to veil it, even as one unfurls a drape before a window. He veils His heavens with drops of water; He forms clouds and governs them as though they were His chariot. He drives the clouds as though they ride on wings formed of wind. God appoints the winds His messengers, and He appoints the fire-flashes of lightning His servants. God forms nature and employs it as His messenger.</english>

<english>God established the earth upon its foundations, that it should never falter nor be ruined. Until God had completed forming the universe, the deep waters covered the earth, even as garments clothe a person. Water stood above the mountains, enveloping them. Earth's waters swiftly moved away once You forcefully commanded them so on Creation's third day. Your thunder's sound made the waters rush away and shift to their proper station, that dry land might appear upon the earth. You made the waters ascend the mountains, and thence they flowed down into the valleys, unto the place You prepared for them. You set sand as a bound the oceans ought not overstep, lest they return and cover the land as they did while the universe was being formed. God sends springs that place water into rivers lest they wither. Those rivers can then stream between mountains. Every beast of the field drinks of these waters. The wild beasts slake their thirst by drinking of these waters. Birds of heaven remain beside the rivers; they lift their voices in praise of God amid the foliage of the trees. God grants water unto the mountains from His clouds on high. The earth is sated by the fruit of Your works, through the rain You bring down.</english>

The Lord's trees imbibe water till they are satisfied. Lebanon's cedar trees are God's; these are the trees that He planted. There, amid those trees, birds fashion their nests. The stork makes its dwelling in the cypress tree. God formed the lofty mountains as a dwelling for wild goats and crags as refuge for rabbits. God formed the moon that we might know when the festivals are to take place. The sun knows the course it is meant to travel, and never strays from it. God, You bring darkness at the close of each day and night arrives. Then every creature of the forest creeps forth, for no people are near to disturb them at that hour. The young lions roar from hunger, seeking food to eat; they petition God for their food. At sunrise, they go back and rest within their dens. Once daybreak comes, man goes out to his labor, to his toil until evening.2</english>

<english>Lord, how numerous are the works of Your hands; You fashioned them all with wisdom.3 The earth is filled with Your possessions, for all that is in the world belongs to You. God, You formed this vast and wide sea, wherein dwell countless creeping creatures, and beings that live, small and great. Vessels voyage there, and You formed the Leviathan that sports within it. All creations gaze in hope toward You, awaiting You to grant them their food in its due season. At times You give it to them by indirect means, and they must collect it from various places. Yet at times You open Your hand and grant them all their food directly, and then they are readily sated with goodness. Once You hide Your face from Your creations and withhold their food, they are terrified. As You take back their soul, they perish and return to dust, from which beasts and the first man, Adam, were formed. In time to come, when You send Your spirit into the world in the hour of the Resurrection of the Dead, those who perished shall be created anew. You shall renew the face of the earth by placing more people upon it.</english>

<english>The Lord's glory shall endure forever.4 The Lord will ever be content with what He has done; He will rejoice in His works of creation. God gazes upon the earth and it quakes in fear. God touches the mountains, and they blaze; they send forth smoke. I shall sing unto the Lord with my soul; I shall chant unto my God while I yet live. May my prayer prove sweet to Him. I shall rejoice for the Lord is my God. May people cease to follow their evil inclination, and then sinners will vanish from the earth. The wicked will no longer exist, for all will act properly. My soul ought to bless the Lord. Praise the Lord.</english>

<text>2 This verse is also describing the spiritual work of the soul. When a new day begins—when the soul is born—it “goes out to its job” of doing good deeds and making the world a holier place. But the soul also has a second task: to work on itself and refine its own attributes. It must do so throughout its entire life, until the evening—when it returns to its Maker in heaven.</text>

<text>3 On a deeper level, we are asking: How is it possible for so many different types of creations to come from God, if God is a single Oneness? The answer is that God “creates them with wisdom”—He uses His attribute of wisdom to restrict and “filter” His infinite Oneness—a process known as “tzimtzum” in Chassidic philosophy—in order to create physical things.</text>
