<english>god. I am the Lord, your God, Who brought you forth from the land of Egypt.1 Whenever you require Me, open your mouth wide. Ask of Me what you require, and I shall grant it. But, says God, My people did not hearken to My voice; the Children of Israel did not wish to hearken to Me. So I drove them away into exile for pursuing what their hearts saw and desired, for pursuing their evil designs. If only My people would hearken to Me, if only the Children of Israel would walk in My ways, I would swiftly subdue their foes, and I would turn My hand against their oppressors. Then, those foes, who hate the Lord, would deny to Him about ever having harmed us, hoping to be saved. But their season of punishment would last forever. Furthermore, says God, I would feed the Jewish Nation with the finest wheat, like the manna I gave them while they journeyed in the desert; and I would sate them with honey from a rock, like the sweet water I provided in the wilderness.</english>

<english>has also made the world a firm place that will never falter, because wars and destruction will be no more. Some will only recognize this after the Redemption. The truth, however, is that Your throne has stood firm from the beginning of time, and You have existed forever, even before You formed the universe. Lord, during exile, the rivers—Your enemies, who surge like mighty rivers—have risen up against us—the rivers have lifted their voice. The rivers lift their mighty waves and threaten to destroy us. But mightier than the roar of many waters and mightier than the vast billows of the sea is the Lord, Who is mighty in the heavens, on high. Your testimonies regarding the close of exile and the Redemption are most trustworthy. Your house, Lord, the Third Temple, shall be beautiful with holiness and it shall last forever.</english>

<text>1 Literally, "Who raised you up from the land of Egypt." The Hebrew word for Egypt (מִצְרַיִם) can also be translated as "boundaries." God did not only take us out of Egypt; He also "raised" us and enabled every Jew to go beyond his personal boundaries and limitations. This concept is also hinted at in the next part of the verse, where God instructs us to open our mouths "wide"—beyond normal limits. In practical terms, this means praying and studying Torah more than we are accustomed to. If we do so, God assures us that He will "fill" our mouths and provide us with what we need.</text>

<text>2 This Psalm was chosen as the daily song for Friday because, according to the Midrash, Adam recited the first verse of the Psalm immediately following his creation, which occurred on Friday. The purpose of doing so was to declare God King of the universe. In order for God to be King, however, it was necessary for Him to "dress Himself." Just as a person dresses himself with a garment in order to conceal himself, so does God conceal His unlimited energy so that He may descend into this limited world and rule over it.</text>
