<english>creations.1 Lord, every work of Yours shall thank You, and Your faithful people shall bless You. They shall declare about the glory of Your kingdom; they shall recount about Your mighty power. They shall tell of these matters so that people may know about God's mighty deeds, and the honorable splendor of His kingdom. God, Your reign is a dominion that embraces all worlds, and Your sovereignty over the worlds endures forever, through all coming generations. The Lord upholds all those who stumble,2 and He makes upright those who are bent. God, all eyes gaze hopefully upon You for aid, and You grant them their food in due season. You open Your hand and supply ample food to fulfill the longings of every living being. The Lord acts fairly throughout His ways, showing kindness in every deed of His. The Lord draws near to all who cry to Him, and He responds to all who call upon Him in truth and honesty. He grants the wishes and needs of those who revere Him; He listens to their cries for help, and He delivers them. The Lord guards everyone who loves Him, and He will wipe out all the wicked people. My lips shall utter the praises of the Lord, and all shall do likewise and bless His holy name for all time. We shall bless God, presently and forever. Praise the Lord.</english>

<english>What follows is a hymn written by King David for the Levites' choirmaster, meant for chanting in the Holy Temple. King David addresses the Jewish Nation: May the Lord reply to your prayers in your time of hardship; let the name of the God of Jacob fortify you.3 May God dispatch to you your aid4 from the Sanctuary of the Temple and uphold you from Zion (Jerusalem). May He recall all of your flour-offerings and always receive your burnt-offerings with favor. May He grant you what your heart desires. May He carry out all of your counsel; may every plan that you give to people prove good, and may every idea of yours succeed. God, we shall rejoice when You deliver us. By the name of our God, we shall raise banners of victory.5 May the Lord grant all of your needs, whatever you request. When all these good things come to pass, every Jewish person will declare, "I now know that the Lord has delivered His anointed one, King David, by responding to him from His sacred heavens with the mighty delivering strength of His right hand." Some people trust in chariots to gain victory in battle, and some people trust in horses, but we, the Jewish Nation, trust only in God. We invoke the Lord, our God, by name, seeking help. Our foes stoop and collapse, yet we arise and remain firm. Rescue us, Lord; may the King of the universe respond to us on the day we cry out to Him.</english>

<text>1 God's mercy extends to every single one of His creations, without exception. Unlike humans, who only have mercy on those they can empathize with and relate to, God's mercy extends even to those who are completely removed from His ways.</text>

<text>2 This verse alludes to the Jewish Nation in exile. Although we have already "fallen" to a low spiritual state due to exile, God supports us and prevents us from falling even further.</text>

<text>3 We specifically mention the "God of Jacob," as opposed to Abraham or Isaac. Jacob was unique in that he merited seeing Godly revelations at night (Abraham and Isaac only received revelations during the day). Because Jacob was willing to move out of the Holy Land and live in Egypt—a place of exile and spiritual darkness—God wanted to send Jacob the message that even during the night—in the spiritual darkness of exile—God will always be with the Jewish Nation. We therefore invoke Jacob when we ask God to answer us and rescue us from our difficult exile, a time of great darkness.</text>
