<text>1 When non-Jews see our suffering, they think that we have "no hope," believing that our suffering will continue indefinitely. We, however, know that our suffering will end with the coming of the Redemption. Furthermore, our Sages have taught us that suffering will immediately precede the Redemption. Thus, the longer we suffer continuously, the greater the indication that the Redemption is imminent. (Nevertheless, we ask God to spare our pain and have mercy on us, for we are already "exhausted" from the pain of our long exile.)</text>
