<english>lowly people along the path of justice, and He instructs them in His ways. Every path of the Lord is kindness and truth for those who observe His Covenant—His Torah—and His commandments. Pardon me, God, for my sin, even though it is vast. Do so on account of Your name, Lord, that people may know You as a forgiving God. King David tells us: The Lord aids whoever fears Him and shows him how to choose the right path. When such a person dies, his soul shall rest in peace, and his children shall inherit the earth. The secrets of the Lord are disclosed to those who revere Him. He makes His Covenant—the Torah—known unto them. My eyes remain ever turned to the Lord, for He will loose my feet from the snare that my enemies have laid for me. Look upon me and be gracious to me, God, for I stand alone and in pain. The anguish of my heart has grown; deliver me from my woes. Behold my pain and affliction, and pardon all my sins. Behold how my enemies have multiplied; they hate me with fierce hatred. Guard my soul and deliver me. Do not let me be shamed by others, for I trust in You. Sincerity and uprightness shall shield me, for my hope rests in You. God, redeem the Children of Israel from every one of their troubles. King David tells us: He, God, will redeem and pardon the Children of Israel for all their sins.1</english>

עֲשֵׂה עִמָּנוּ צְדָקָה לְמַעַן שְׁמֶךָ:</hebrew>
<english>Lord, recall Your acts of mercy and Your acts of lovingkindness, for they have always been done3—You've ever acted in mercy and lovingkindness. Lord, answer us in the day of our distress; may the name of the God of Jacob fortify us. Deliver us, Lord; may the King of the universe respond to us on the day we cry out to Him. Our Father, our King, be gracious to us and answer us, for we have no good deeds, and we have not earned Your kindness. Treat us kindly and generously for the sake of Your name, that all may see that You treat the Jewish Nation well, even when they have not earned it.</english>

<text>2 On Mondays and Thursdays we recite additional prayers because these days are associated with God's judgment. After Moses discovered the Jewish Nation worshiping the Golden Calf, he reacted by throwing down the two Tablets, shattering them. Later, after Moses beseeched God for mercy and forgiveness on behalf of the Jewish Nation, he went to Mount Sinai to receive a second set of Tablets from God. He ascended the mountain on a Thursday, and descended with the new Tablets on Monday.</text>

<text>God originally desired to create the world with His attribute of severity. However, He saw that it would not be able to survive. He therefore "sweetened" the severity with His attribute of kindness. We ask God to remember the "kindness" with which He created the world and to continue giving us that kindness today, because without it, we would cease to exist.</text>
