<english>of Buzi received instruction to record in the Book of Vision1 this very day as a memorial for the weak and disgraced people. In [Tevet,] the tenth of the monthly sequence, [God’s fury] was roused; amid wailing and lamentation I open my mouth; my heart burns amid the series of calamities [which commenced] when the fugitive reached me and said, “The city [Jerusalem] has been defeated!”2 For these I strewed ashes on my face; for these four3 I exclaimed, “Would that I could shoot an arrow into my heart! For these misfortunes I would rather dig a grave for myself!” Righteous is the Lord, for I have rebelled against His command.4 I invoke Your Name, repenting my misdeeds; see my affliction and hear my supplication’s voice; heed my plea, O hasten my deliverance; do not shut Your ear to my sighing, to my cry.5 In Tevet’s month I was severely smitten, and for me the course of His ways was changed; I turned away [from Him], I transgressed, [yet] may He make His goodness known to me, He who says to the sea, “Thus far shall you come!”6</english>
