<english>אנשי Faithful men, who arrive by the power of their meritorious deeds, have disappeared. Mighty they were to stand at the breach, averting [harsh] decrees. A [protective] wall they were for us, a shelter on the day of fury. With their prayer they suppressed [Your] wrath, with their cries they restrained [Your] anger. You answered them before they called to You; they knew the way to plead and to appease You. For their merit You showed a father's compassion; empty-handed You did not turn them away. Through our many wrongdoings we lost them; because of our sins they were taken from us. To their rest they departed, and to sighs they left us. Those who repaired the fences are gone; perished are they who turned Your wrath aside. No more are they who stood in the breach, they who were worthy to appease You with prayer1. In the four corners of the earth we have wandered, and relief we have found nowhere. Shamefaced, we return to You, to seek You, O Lord, in the hour of our distress.</english>

Almighty One, to recite the Thirteen [Attributes of Mercy] You have taught us; this day, in our behalf, remember the Covenant of the Thirteen [Attributes], as in days gone by You made known to [Moses] the humble one, as it is written: And the Lord came down within the cloud and stood there with him, and he called upon the Name of the Lord.</english>
