<english>every person separately. Slaughter, the sprinkling of its blood, purging of its entrails, and burning of its fat supersede the Shabbat, yet remaining matters that belong to it do not supersede the Shabbat. In like manner, should [the fourteenth of Nissan] occur on Shabbat, the Passover offerings are not taken home, but one company stays with their Passover offerings upon the Temple mount, the second company sits in the chel [an area just outside the Temple court], and the third remains standing in its place. Once night has fallen, they proceed to their places and roast the Passover offerings. The Passover offering was slaughtered in three companies, every company numbering no fewer than thirty men. The first company entered, the Temple court filled, they shut [its doors], and as they slaughtered it and presented its parts upon the altar, they [the Levi'im] recited the Hallel; should they complete [Hallel] before all had sacrificed, they recited it again, and should they recite it again [and were not finished yet], they recited it a third time. Whenever Hallel was recited, [the Kohanim] gave three trumpet blasts: tekiah, teruah, tekiah. Once the offering concluded, they opened the doors of the Temple court, the first company departed and the second entered, and they shut the doors of the Temple court. Once they concluded, they opened the doors, the second company departed and the third entered. Every company's procedure was identical. Once all had departed, they cleansed the Temple court of the blood's filth, even on Shabbat. How was the washing accomplished? A water channel ran through the Temple court and possessed an outlet from the court. When they desired to wash the floor, they closed the outlet and the current overflowed its banks until the waters mounted and inundated the [floor] on every side, and all the blood and dirt of the court were drawn into it. Then they opened the outlet, all flowed away and the floor stood wholly clean; this constitutes the honor of the Temple. Should the Passover offering prove unfit, one did not discharge his obligation until he brings another one.</english>

<text>This is a most concise account of the Pesach offering's order. The God-fearing person ought to recite it at its appointed time, that its recital may be accounted in place of its offering. One ought to grieve over the destruction of the Beit Hamikdash, and entreat before God, Maker of the universe, that He restore it speedily in our days; Amen.</text>
