"text": "On Shabbat and festivals, walking more than 2000 cubits (slightly more than 3000 ft.) outside the city is a rabbinic prohibition. Whoever needs to go further than this may fix his “residence” outside the city by setting food sufficient for two meals within 2000 cubits of the city limits, ahead of Shabbat or the festival. One may then proceed 2000 cubits from that point in any direction one desires. See Laws, page 607."
