<english>9. Wild beasts descend upon the world because of false oaths and because of desecrating the Divine Name. Exile enters the world because of idolatry, incest, murder, and failure to let the land lie fallow through the Sabbatical year. During four seasons [of the seven-year Sabbatical cycle] plague mounts—during the fourth year, during the seventh [Sabbatical] year, during the year after the Sabbatical year, and each year when the festival of Sukkot closes. During the fourth year—because they withheld the poor-tithe in the third; during the seventh year—because they withheld the poor-tithe in the sixth; during the year after the Sabbatical year—owing to [not observing the laws pertaining to] Sabbatical-year produce; each year, when the festival of Sukkot closes—for plundering the poor of their [harvest] gifts.2</english>
