          "english": "Abbaye, on the authority of tradition and in accord with Abba Shaul's view, recounted the order of the daily priestly functions: On the altar the large wood-pile was set in place ahead of the second pile [from which fire was taken for the incense-offering]; setting the second pile for the incense-offering preceded the laying of the two logs of wood upon the large pile; laying the two logs of wood preceded the clearing of ashes from the inner altar; the clearing of ashes from the inner altar was prior to cleaning the five lamps [of the menorah]; cleaning the five lamps [of the menorah] was prior to dashing the blood of the daily burnt-offering; dashing the blood of the daily burnt-offering was prior to cleaning the remaining two lamps [of the menorah]; cleaning the two lamps [of the menorah] was prior to the incense-offering; the incense-offering was prior to burning the parts of the daily burnt-offering; burning those parts of the daily burnt-offering was prior to the meal-offering; the meal-offering was prior to offering the pancakes; the offering of pancakes was prior to the wine-offering; the wine-offering came ahead of the musaf (additional) offerings [of Shabbat and the festivals]; the musaf-offerings were prior to placing the two censers with frankincense; the frankincense censers were prior to the daily afternoon burnt-offering, as it is written, “And [the Kohen] shall arrange the burnt-offering upon the altar, and burn thereon the fat of the peace-offerings”<sup>6</sup>—thereby were all the offerings completed.<sup>7</sup>",
