<english>they moved. And the aspect of the chayot—their appearance was as fiery coals, burning like the look of torches; this was shared by all the chayot; and brilliance belonged to the fire, and out of the fire lightning went forth. The chayot ran and returned like the look of a lightning flash. As I watched the chayot, I beheld one ophan (angelic being) on the floor [of the firmament] beside [each of] the chayot with its four faces. The look of the ophanim and their construction was like chrysolite, and all four possessed the same image; their look and their construction was as though a wheel within a wheel. When they went, they could go in any of the four directions, without turning as they went. And their rims were lofty and awesome; the rims were filled with eyes all around—the four of them. When the chayot went, the ophanim went beside them, and when the chayot lifted themselves from the ground, the ophanim lifted themselves. Wherever the will [of God] was that they should go, they went, for in them was the spirit of God [guiding them] to go there; and the ophanim lifted themselves at the same moment, for the spirit of the chayot is in the ophanim. When those went, these went; when those stood, these stood; and when those lifted themselves above the ground, the ophanim lifted themselves at the same moment, for the spirit of the chayot is in the ophanim. And above the heads of the chayot there was a thing resembling a firmament, like awesome ice, spread out above their heads. Their wings, which are under the firmament, were even one with the other; this one had two wings covering it and that one had two wings covering it, namely, their bodies. When they went, I heard the noise of their wings like the noise of mighty waters, like the voice of the Almighty, a noise of tumult like the noise of an army; when they stood, their wings were stilled. And a Voice was there above the firmament that is over their heads; they stood and their wings were stilled. Above the firmament that is over their heads was the likeness of a throne, looking like sapphire, and on the likeness of the throne there was a likeness having the appearance of a man [as it were] upon it above. And I beheld [him] like a pure luminescence, with the appearance of fire enclosing it [the luminescence] round about—from the appearance of his loins and upward; and from the appearance of his loins and downward I beheld as the appearance of fire, and a radiance was surrounding him. Like the look of the bow that stands in the cloud on a day of rain, so was the look of the encompassing radiance. Such was the look of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I beheld this, I fell upon my face and heard a voice that spoke. And a wind raised me, and behind me I heard a great, roaring sound: Blessed be the glory of the Lord from its place.</english>
