LORD our God, You have bestowed upon us equitable laws and faithful teachings, good precepts and commandments. Seasons of joy, sacred festivals, and occasions for presenting our freewill offerings You have granted us as our heritage. The Sabbath’s holiness, the festival’s glory, and the festive offerings of the pilgrimage days You have granted us as our heritage. LORD our God, You have set a distinction between holy and ordinary, between light and darkness, between Israel and the peoples, between the seventh day and the six working days. Between the Sabbath’s holiness and the festival’s holiness You have drawn distinction, and hallowed the seventh day above the six working days. You have set apart and consecrated Your people Israel with Your holiness.</english>

<text>(creation) and the end of history (ultimate redemption), the festivals recall specific moments within history: on Pesah, the exodus from Egypt; on Shavuot, the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai; and on Sukkot, the forty years of wandering in the wilderness. Hence the reference to the divine choice of Israel as the people who, through their singular history, bear witness to the role of God in history.</text>
