"english": "is the living God, and worthy of praise. He exists, and His being is outside time. He is One, and no unity resembles His. His Oneness, unfathomable, is infinite. Neither bodily form nor substance has He; His holiness cannot be compared. He went before all that was created. He was first: His beginning had no beginning. Behold, Master of the Universe is He; and every creature displays His greatness and majesty. The abundant stream of His prophecy He granted His treasured people, in whom He gloried. Never has there arisen in Israel another like Moses, a prophet who beheld God's image. God gave His people a Torah of truth through His prophet, the most faithful of His House. God will neither alter nor exchange His law for any other, for eternity. He sees and knows our hidden thoughts; the moment a thing is begun, He foresees its end. With loving-kindness He rewards people according to their deeds; the wicked He punishes according to his wickedness. He will send our Messiah at the end of days, to redeem those awaiting His final salvation. God will revive the dead through His great loving-kindness. His glorious name is blessed for evermore!"

Like Adon Olam, the presence of Yigdal in the siddur reminds us that it is not only a book of prayer but also the supreme book of Jewish faith. Judaism contains little systematic theology. We speak to God more than we speak about God. Yet Judaism is a faith whose distinctive beliefs find their home in the prayer book. We do not analyze faith in academic detachment. We sing it, affirming faith with joy."
