<english>May He who blessed Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, our ancestors, bless those serving in Israel’s Defense Forces and its security services, who keep watch over our land and over the cities of our God from the Mediterranean sea to the approach of the Aravah, from the Lebanese border to the Egyptian desert, and in every other place they may be, by land, by air and by sea. May the LORD cause those enemies that rise against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, blessed be He, shield and deliver them from every affliction and illness, trouble and distress, and upon every work of their hands send blessing and success. May He subdue our enemies beneath them and with deliverance and victory crown them. And may this verse be fulfilled in them: “The LORD your God it is who goes with you, to fight on your behalf against your enemies, that He may deliver you.” And let us say: Amen.</english>

<english>May He who bestowed blessing upon our forebears, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Joseph, Moses and Aaron, David and Solomon, bless, shield and watch over those of Israel’s Defense Forces missing in action or held captive, and further captives from among our brethren, the entire house of Israel, who remain in distress or captivity, as we, the members of this sacred congregation, offer prayer on their behalf. May the Holy One, blessed be He, show them compassion and lead them out from darkness and death’s shadow; may He snap their bonds, rescue them from their distress, and restore them swiftly to their families’ embrace. Offer thanks to the LORD for His loving-kindness and for the marvels He works for the children of men; and may this verse be fulfilled in them: “The LORD's redeemed shall return; they shall come into Zion with singing, and everlasting joy shall crown their heads. Gladness and joy shall overtake them, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” And let us respond: Amen.</english>

<text>מִי שֶׁבֵּרַךְ Prayer for Israel’s Defense Forces: The verse with which the prayer ends is taken from the speech that the “Kohen anointed for war” spoke to Israel before they went out to battle in biblical times (Deut. 20:4). Israel, always small, always outnumbered by its neighbors, places its faith in God and the justice of its cause, not on military might alone.</text>
