<english>God on high who abides in might, the King whose is peace, gaze down from Your holy dwelling and bless those soldiers of the American military forces who stake their lives for the sake of peace upon earth. Be unto them a shelter and fortress, and suffer them not to falter. Grant them strength and valor to frustrate the enemy's designs and bring the rule of evil to an end. May those who oppose them be scattered, and may their adversaries flee before them; may they take joy in Your salvation. Restore them in safety unto their homes, as is written: “The LORD shall keep you from every harm, He shall keep your life. The LORD shall keep your going forth and coming in, now and for evermore.” And may the verse be fulfilled for us: “No nation shall raise sword against another, nor shall they study war any more.” Let all who dwell on earth know that Yours is the sovereignty, and over all You have fashioned Your name inspires awe – and let us say: Amen.</english>

<text>הַנּוֹתֵן תְּשׁוּעָה Prayer for the Welfare of the Government. This prayer echoes the instruction of Jeremiah (29:7) to those dispersed at the time of the Babylonian exile (sixth century BCE): “Seek the peace of the city to which I have carried you in exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because in its peace, you shall find peace.” Similar guidance was given at a later period (first century CE) after the Roman conquest of Jerusalem: “Rabbi Ḥanina, the deputy High Priest, said: Pray for the welfare of the government, for were it not for fear of it, people would swallow one another alive” (Avot 3:2).</text>
