In Him our hearts take delight, for we have trusted in His holy name. LORD, may Your loving-kindness rest upon us, as we have set our hope in You. LORD, make Your loving-kindness known to us and grant us Your salvation. Rise up, aid us and redeem us for the sake of Your love. I am the LORD your God, who raised you up from the land of Egypt: open wide your mouth and I will fill it. Fortunate is the people for whom this is so; fortunate is the people whose God is the LORD. ▸ As for me, I rely upon Your loving-kindness; my heart takes joy in Your salvation. I will sing to the LORD, for He has dealt well with me.</english>

<english>A psalm of David. A song for dedicating the House. I will exalt You, LORD, for You have raised me up, and not let my foes rejoice over me. LORD, my God, I cried to You for aid and You healed me. LORD, You drew my soul up from the grave; You kept me from going down to the pit. Raise a song to the LORD, you His devoted ones, and offer thanks to His holy name. His anger lasts but a moment, yet His favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may come by night, yet joy comes with the morning. In my security I said, “I shall never be shaken.” While You favored me, LORD, You set me firm as a mountain; yet when You hid Your face, terror seized me. I called to You, LORD; I pleaded with my LORD: “What profit would there be in my dying and going down to the grave? Can dust give You thanks? Can it declare Your truth? Give ear, LORD, and be gracious to me; LORD, be my help.” You have transformed my sorrow into dancing. ▸ You have stripped away my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, that my soul may sing to You and not keep silent. LORD my God, forever will I thank You.</english>

<text>Blessings and the Pesukei DeZimra. The connecting theme is the restoration of life as a reason for giving praise. The Psalmist recounts a crisis when his life, hitherto secure, was suddenly in danger. It was then that he prayed to God, “What gain would there be if I died and went down to the grave? ... Can dust thank You?” So we, waking to the life of a new day, express our sense of joy, “so that my soul may sing to You and not be silent.”</text>
