<english>A song of ascents. Of David. Were the LORD not on our side - let Israel say it - were the LORD not on our side when men rose up against us, they would have devoured us alive when their wrath burned against us. Floods would have engulfed us; the torrent would have rushed over us; over us would have rushed the raging waters. Blessed be the LORD who did not give us as prey to their teeth. Like a bird we fled the fowler's trap; the snare broke and we escaped. Our help stands in the name of the LORD, Maker of heaven and earth.</english>

<english>A psalm of David. The LORD's is the earth and all it contains, the world and everyone who lives in it. For He founded it upon the seas and set it firm upon the streams. Who may ascend the mountain of the LORD? Who may stand in His holy place? One who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has not taken My name in vain nor sworn deceitfully. A blessing from the LORD shall he receive, and just reward from the God of his salvation. Such is a generation of those who seek Him, Jacob's descendants who seek Your presence, Selah! Raise your heads, O gates; be lifted, eternal doors, so that the King of glory may enter. Who is the King of glory? He is the LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle. Raise your heads, O gates; raise them, eternal doors, that the King of glory may enter. ‣ Who is He, the King of glory? The LORD of hosts Himself is the King of glory, Selah!</english>

<text>The link between these two ideas - redemption and Torah study - is created in an inspired fashion, by reading two consecutive verses from Isaiah, the first of which speaks of redemption ("A redeemer will come to Zion"), and the second of which talks of Torah study ("My words I have placed in your mouth will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouth of your children"). Thus are joined study, the internalization of God's word, and redemption, the externalization of God's word as we prepare to enter the world of work, striving to live by the Torah's commandments.</text>
