<english>LORD, tidings of You I heard, and I feared; LORD, revive Your work in these years, make it known in these years; in wrath, remember mercy. Coming from Teiman is God, the Holy One, from Mount Paran, Selah. The heavens are covered with His glory, the earth is filled with His praise, its brilliance like light, beams from His hand, from the hidden place of His might. Before Him plague will go, fire following His feet; standing, He measures up the land; looking, He makes the nations tremble; ancient mountains shatter, age-old hills collapse – His are the world's ways. The tents of Kushan I saw distressed, the curtains of the land of Midian quivering. Is it at the rivers that the LORD is angry – is Your fury against the rivers, Your wrath, against the sea, that upon Your horses You ride, upon Your chariot of deliverance? Uncovered, Your bow is bared, according to the promise said to the tribes, Selah. Into rivers You slice the land; the mountains quake seeing You, rushing waters flow past, the deep lifts its voice, raises its hands skyward. Sun and moon stand still in their place – the world goes on by the light of Your arrows, in the brilliance from Your shining spear. You walk over the land in rage, You trample nations in fury: You come forth to deliver Your people, to deliver Your anointed. The head of the house of the wicked You crush, baring the foundation up to its neck, Selah. With his own sticks You pierce the head of his leaders – coming like a storm to scatter me, rejoicing as though secretly devouring the poor. Through the sea You drive Your horses, the mass of raging waters. I hear and my belly churns, my lips stutter at the sound, a rot enters my bones, I quiver where I stand yet I wait calmly for the day of trouble, when he comes up against the people to attack them. The fig tree fails to blossom, and there is no yield from the vines; gaunt grows the olive, and the grain fields yield no food; the sheep are gone from the pens, and there are</english>

<text>were to be taken from me, I would still have God, and it would be more than enough. To live in the presence of God, knowing that He is with us whatever fate brings, is to experience ultimate existential joy: joy in the simple fact that He is and we are, that we are because He is. Nothing can separate us from the Source of our being. We live in the light of His presence, and thus in hope and joy.</text>

<text>HAFTARA FOR THE SECOND DAY OF SHAVUOT The Haftara, taken from the conclusion of the short prophetic book of Habakkuk, was chosen because it describes a future revelation similar, at least in externals, to the one that took place on Mount Sinai on the first Shavuot. As then, so in the future, God will make an appearance in history, shaking the earth to its foundations. Ancient mountains will shatter, age-old hills will collapse – language reminiscent of the theophany at Sinai as described in Deuteronomy 33:2–5, Judges 5:4, and Psalms 68:8–9.</text>

<text>The passage culminates in one of the most beautiful sentiments in the entire prophetic literature.
