<english>deeds for humankind. Let them offer thanksgiving-sacrifices and recount His deeds with songs of joy. Seafarers who go in ships, plying their trade on the mighty waters, have seen the LORD’s works, His wonders in the deep. He spoke and raised a tempest that lifted high the waves. They mounted to the heavens and sank to the depths; their souls melted away in misery. Like drunkards they reeled and staggered; all their skill availed them nothing. Then, in their trouble, they cried to the LORD, and out of their distress He brought them. He hushed the storm to a whisper, and the sea’s waves grew calm. They rejoiced at the quiet, then He guided them to the haven they sought. Let them give thanks to the LORD for His steadfast love and the wonders He has done for humankind. Let them exalt Him in the people’s assembly and praise Him in the elders’ council. Rivers He turns into a desert, water-springs into arid ground, fruitful country into a salt marsh, on account of the wickedness of those who dwell there. The desert He turns into pools of water, arid ground into flowing springs; the hungry He brings to dwell there, and they build a town for themselves to inhabit. They sow fields and plant vineyards yielding a plentiful harvest; He blesses them so that they multiply greatly, and their herds do not diminish, though few they had been, and brought low by oppression, hardship and grief. Contempt He pours on nobles and sends them wandering through a pathless waste. ▸ From poverty He lifts the destitute and makes their families as numerous as flocks. The upright see and rejoice, but every wrongdoer’s mouth is stopped. Let the wise take these things to heart, and ponder the loving-kindness of the LORD.</english>

The Torah includes laws relating to welfare, the environment, the administration of justice, employer-employee relationships, and many other matters not normally thought of as religious.
