Customs differ concerning how many passages one recites, and each person should follow the congregation's custom. <english>Speaking to Moses, the LORD said: Fashion a basin of bronze, with its bronze stand for washing, and set it between the altar and the Tent of Meeting, filling it with water. Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and feet from it. Upon entering the Tent of Meeting they are to wash with water lest they die; likewise when they draw near the altar to serve, offering a fire-offering to the LORD. Their hands and feet they must wash, lest they die. Let this be a perpetual ordinance for Aaron and his descendants throughout their generations.</english>

Overnight until morning the burnt-offering shall remain on the altar hearth, and the fire of the altar shall be kept alight upon it. The priest shall then don his linen garments, with linen breeches against his flesh, and shall take away the ashes of the burnt-offering consumed by the fire upon the altar and set them beside the altar. He shall then strip off these garments and don others, and bear the ashes beyond the camp to a clean place. The altar fire must be kept alight; it must not go out. Morning by morning the priest shall lay wood on it, arranging upon it the burnt-offering and burning the fat of the peace-offerings. A perpetual fire must be kept alight on the altar; it must not go out.</english>
